day one of snow

emails from friends in japan full of fantastic things:

yesterday, on my way for food in the canteen i met the chef who was so shocked, then pleased to see a foreigner in his canteen, he got down for a breakdance. after a couple of very impressive moves, i guess he was expecting me to do likewise… the food was as always good, but if i don’t break some moves one of these days, who knows what i could be fishing out of my soup?

as a reaction to all this “studying abroad” going on amongst my friends and hyped up by a message i saw on my colleges system about studying abroad i decided to ask them [my college] if i was eligable (as im not a full time student), they responded by quickly enough with the answer of “no”. so no berlin / barcelona / prague / [insert random city name here] for me next year for a while.

over the last few days i have gone from despising flash to the current mood of “reluctant acceptance” that i have to study it and learn the finnikity ways of tween motion all through finnish. (update: i hate flash again.) en ymmärrä. my frustration with flash has been replaced with a frustration with the course application process that one has to go through on my colleges website. it just doesnt make any sense. none.

civ 4 ordered. i really dont know what to think of this up close and personal almost cartoony type graphics. weekends in november will be taken up finding out though.

woo! i had give up trying to get wordpress talking to flickr - a plugin available to display all flickr sets as albums on my own site just didnt/wouldnt work. i read then about falbum and i got it and installed it and hey presto! it worked. then i messed/chopped up/hacked the css and default theme to get it working. go look here!.

(i still run this blog using blogger - i just have an empty wordpress on my servers too just for this plugin)

i just heard an ad on irish radio for brennans bread.

“home is where the bread is”

mmm bread. my requirements for bread are simple and easy to accomadate - yet almost every single day i go to a local shop to get some bread only to leave disappointed. there are four shops i visit (2 near home and 2 near work) and some days they have nice bread - other days they dont. (they do of course always have the regular finnish breads in stock).

in exchange for a book shelf that i dont need, im going to ask a friend to teach me to bake some bread that she made for a party a while back. self sufficiency!.

we signed the contract last night for our new apartment on runeberginkatu here in helsinki. its going to take us a week or so to move starting this weekend. woo!

i was watching the top 20 childrens tv shows from ireland last night. a wave of memories came over me. happy days. (click on the image above and it takes you to flickr where i have a much larger version of the image with notes).
