a person rang me yesterday afternoon as i sat playing civilization 4 - usually when anyone rings me and starts talking i have to tell them that they have the wrong person (my phone number used to belong to a well connected finnish bar person), but this time it actually was for me. it was the saunalahti man coming to install my internet downstairs in the bellows of my building. so that should be working/turned on next weekend - then i have to go out and get an adsl modem/router thing (linksys thingy link i think). so when that is all set up and bought i can start uploading the 4gb-ish of photo backlog onto flickr. (also new camera ordered and it should be waiting for me when i get back to ireland for the christmas holidays).

it started snowing here last night. woo! four or five months of snow. we’re off to suomenlinna for a cold snow filled afternoon (although by the time we get there it will be dark).

there was a few gangland murders in dublin over the weekend. two killed first, then another killed in a revenge attack. so yesterday probably wasnt the best day for the irish minister of defence to be photo’d like this

sigur rós did two concerts here in helsinki late last month - i spent some time updating the tour diary over that weekend but i never got to mentioning about it here. above are three photos, the first is of the first song - glósóli - the second smáskífa and the third is the of them bowing at the end of the concert. a great/drunken/hectic/exhasuting weekend was had.

(the second image might look a bit crap, but its of one of my highlights of their live show. smáskífa is made up of two parts, the second part is mindblowing. the band leave the stage leaving orri playing keyboards on his own - the visuals of of birds sitting on a telephone line - the colours inverted. as orri plays the birds come and go, then just as orri finishes and stands up to leave the stage the birds all fly away as if in syncronicity with him. an amazing moment that never dulls despite seeing it five or six times this year).

im spending a lot of time these days listening to irish radio - morning ireland from 9 till 11, then gerry ryan for an hour, then switch between pat kenny and gerry for the next two hours. once 2pm comes i switch off.

no sign of my bus ticket, i shall have to buy a new one tomorrow it seems.

i have absolutely no idea whatsoever what i should do my thesis on. none. nada. zip.

its been a crazy few days - the weekend was pretty hectic - new people, new apartment, two sigur rós concerts, got to bed both nights at 0444, found that there is a tiny tiny danish sandwich shop in töölö somewhere, watch neon ping pong, used and fell in love with a dslr, lost my bus ticket - 113€ for a new one :(, computer died twice and was reborn twice. saw a finnish tango singing legend, took 800 pictures, got a package of choclate in the post today and so on and on and on and on…..
