It comes in handy, you get random people knowing you, and as long as nobody discriminates, no downsides :) What really came as a shock was moving to university. Throughout four years, I've gotten used to being the foreign kid, the one who spoke with an accent -- then I got here and half the people have accents stronger than mine. That made for interesting adaptation...
