i opened this picture this morning in photoshop and i had no idea that i took it (just yesterday) or where i took it. took me a minute to remember that it was on pitkäsilta near hakaniemi.

i couldnt sleep, so a short walk to the local 24hr for some choclate and an orange chubba chip lolly. i leave the front door of my apartment building and i look up. orion is sitting there looking back.
i saw a show a few years back on bbc i think. it was all about the secrets of the pyramids. one of the theories goes that the three stars in the middle are the three of the biggest egyptian pyramids. with the outer four ones being four more remote smaller pyramids in egypt. they all matched up, with the milky way representing the river nile.
its so nice to be able to live here, only a few minutes from the city centre, and be able to look up and straight away see so many stars. a larger uncropped version here: [link]

more refunds from my irish bank. a few months ago i got a 23€ refund. now, a few days ago they gave me a 99,70€ on my student loan!.

 "untitled 3" by the austrian electro artist "pita" is my favourite electronica song. i only listen to it once ever six month. anything more than that and i get hearing damage.
it was released in 1999 and i first heard it in 2001 when ha played it for me, maja got me a copy of it last year i think.
ive not done much research on it, but i think the song is a remix/sample distorted beyond belief version of hirds "i crudeli", where the original (which i only heard once on television one night, the familiar sound niggling at me, i couldnt place it for ages) was calm and simple, the pita version is like the soundtrack to a lightening storm. its got such power and such subtle beauty in it. shear brilliance.

 drawing models of houses at almost midnight on a saturday night is not very sociable i agree. but such is life. looking forward to some eboy postcards from amadeep. "mission to mars" is indeed very very bad. they are gonna change the trams in helsinki, number seven will move and number 9 is coming and no 10 will move. crazy. dublin builds two tram lines. in the planning stages the planners (aka politicians) refuse to have the two lines join up. the independent lines are built and are sucessfull (if fundamentally flawed) and low and behold they want to now join them up. holoscan is great for blogger comments (better than bloggers system) but it forgets old comments by people. boo. i am getting too much sleep today. i think we are going to move to a new apartment. saw a really cool cat today. sleeping on a bed, in a beautiful apartment that smelt of sauna. i wanna start eating fish. or fish fingers. is that good brain food? hope so. my monitor displays blacks really badly, every time i take pictures i dread looking at them on this monitor as they look so bad and its not a nice feeling to have something so nice turn out badly. someone said recently that hard work is the way to make up for lack of talent. i find out these important life lessons at twentyseven. shocking. i wanna post this before midnight which is in 4minutes, no 3minutes now. then i have to sms the train times, then back to television. there has to be something on somewhere. i am reading a book at the moment called "the history of civilizations" by francois braudel (i think i spelt his name wrong). everything seems so transient after reading it (or the first 10% of it). america will peak and fall away, china will peak and fall away and in hundreds of years time people will get clinton and bush mixed up. "the power of nightmares" on the bbc should be required viewing for everyone. so much rubbish and reverb and noise out there its hard to know when to stop. 1minute to midnight
my torrent tracker for sigur rós has done almost 200gb of transfers over the last seven weeks. crazy.
just got back a little while ago from the second anteeksi fashion night. really cool clothes, athmosphere, new people and not too chilly. i put a photoset up on flickr: [flickr photo set].
i found out late last night that today was a public holiday here in finland. its all saints day and ruotsalaisuuden päivä ('swedish day' or something) so all the shops are closed, and all our plans of doing some things today are gone. so instead we clean and go to a fashion show tonight. should be cool.
update: the fashion show is outdoors, and the forcast is for light rain and +4,3c. voi voi
"the best of (finnish) advertising 2004" (kultajyväilmoituskilpailun: parhaat 2004) is available now for free in and around helsinki. its a supplement to the m&m (mainosviiko&mediavienti) which i got for free (erm it says 3,30€ on the cover) in corona bar last friday night. go check it out ye finns.
