ice ice baby

just got back from the international ice sculpting competition that was held here in helsinki at the zoo. i took some photos today, and last week when i was at the finnish competition. photos here: [photo set]

now replace "tomorrow" with "today" and "we're" with "i'm" aswell as "huomenna" with "tänään" and "mennään" with "menen" and try to keep the same tune.

there is an ice sculpting competition on out in the zoo, so im gonna go see that. lots and lots of snow outside, plus its 0celcius so aint too cold.

today i uploaded a picture to flickr.

it was taken in dublin in february 2003. at the airport. and it has an aer lingus (irish state airline) airbus a330 in it.

so i add the "a330" tag to the image.

then i check to see if anyone else in flickr has used the "a330" tag. (i like aeroplanes)

one person does.

so i open the image and it happens to be of an aer lingus a330 aswell. then i check out the date at the bottome of the pic. its may 13th 2001. the photo was taken in jfk airport as the person was getting ready to board to fly to ireland.

erm, i was on that exact flight aswell.

this is my internet experience. i somehow manage to spread ten minutes worth of internet viewing over ten hours.

playtime

it was just magical. the merry go round scene at the end was like something from a dream.

connection

i spent the last two months with a 10mbit internet connection due to a mistake/messup/miscommunication with my isp. they rectified the mistake last week (thankfully i wasnt charged) and now i am back to the 0,5mbit connection that comes free with my rent agreement. i am not adjusting to the slower speed very well.

a storm is raging outside. the winter weather so far has been more like irelands winter weather than what finlands weather should be. its been about 0c a lot, raining a lot. where are the freezing winter nights, the white snow to brighten up the dark nights?.

playtime

i keep bumping into jaques tati. a friend, noelani, mentioned him to me first last year and then over the last few days ive been looking and looking for some of his movies. the helsinki library system has some, but only with finnish (and other nordic languages) subtitles (the films are in french). so ive reserved a few of them regardless. basic finnish and basic french should do the job. the orion cinema here in helsinki is showing playtime this sunday. so i'll go check that out (again using the french/finnish combo).

explosions in the sky

2004 ended quietly and 2005 started with a bang. i am really glad last year is behind me. already things in the new year is looking up a little bit. päivi is off to london and rome for a well deserved break in a few weeks, then we are both going to nyc in feb/march for 12 days, then its my sisters communion in ireland in may and beatrizs wedding in madrid a few days later. plus maybe something going on in april somewhere hopefully.

college starts back tomorrow, time to learn about gdl stuff. i was up until 6am last night rearranging furniture, watching the end of the 24 season 2 marathon on subtv, watching some "best of" 2004 tv shows.

the tsunami from last week has shocked us. we've been watching it unfold on bbc, finnish, swedish and german channels. the numbers, the scale and the fury of it has numbed me completely. to donate in ireland read info here: [ireland.com] and in finland check here: [helsingin sanomat]
